The 2019 ICC World Cup kicked off on 30th of May. The tournament is going on in full flow but the flow of rain in England is overshadowing the excitement of the tournament.
The 7th Match of the tournament between Srilanka and Afghanistan was the first to be affected by the Showers but it did reach a result in the end. Since then Pakistan vs Srilanka. South Africa vs West Indies, Bangladesh vs Srilanka and India vs New Zealand were all abandoned.
Criticism on ICC-
The International Cricket Council has faced a lot of Criticism for many reasons. The prominent reason being not scheduling reserve days for group stages. The Covers that are being used to protect the ground from rain are also not of the best quality. Here is what former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had to say about the covers-
“The covers that are used in India, at the Eden Gardens are from England and using them here (in England) would have meant spending half the cost and it is also tax-free, so they should have used those here anyway. In India, we use these covers for all matches, so that when the rain stops the match can resume within 10 minutes. They are very light covers, it’s not difficult to lift it, you don’t need too much manpower. The blue covers that were used earlier in India, used to take more than 10 times the time and people in comparison to now.
“The covers that are in Eden Gardens and in Lord’s are translucent covers, so the light goes past it. This way the grass won’t dry up nor will the color change from green to brown, if you use them to cover the outfield. For such important matches, and in a tournament like the World Cup — especially in a country like England where the rains are so frequent, having these covers are very important, especially on the outfield as well,” Dada explained.
Although the issue has been addressed with a lot of seriousness by former players and experts. The fans cannot stop making fun about it, Here are some prime examples-
Cricket in Iceland (for people in the UK). (1) The blue thing is sky. (2) The green stuff is what’s under your covers. (3) The man in blue is an international cricketer actually batting. (4) The small bits of wood are bails. (5) The bails are coming off the stumps. #CWC19 #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/8ZbAuFWWlP

Dear @ICC – International Cricket Council , trust me , you have actually ruined the World Cup . Even Bangladesh could have hosted the event much better than England .
