It just took four days for Pakistan players to wrap the second test match by 16 runs and an innings to spare and also equalized the three-match test series by 1-1.
An excellent bowling spell by Pakistan’s right-arm legbreaker, Yasir Shah whose combined match figures were 14/184 where altogether he bowled 57.2 off which 10 overs were bowled as maiden overs.
Also centuries by Haris Sohail(147) and Babar Azam (127*) in the first innings led Pakistan’s score for 418-5.
New Zealand were restricted under 100 runs. New Zealand Skipper Kane Williamson remained unbeaten on 28 being helpless to construct a good partnership and watched his entire team getting dismissed one-by-one from the non-striker’s end.
Yasir Shah became the second bowler after Anil Kumble to pick 10 wickets in a day. Although Kumble had taken 10 wickets in an inning itself, in Shah’s case he scalped 8 wickets in 1st innings and the remaining 2 were taken in the second innings that was at the end of the day.
Shah dismissed 10 batsman’s at least once in the match, leaving only Colin De Grandhomme who became the victim of Hasan Ali in both the innings. He also equalled the record of Pakistani legendary bowler Imran Khan of picking 14 wickets in a game.
New Zealand with the help of Ajaz Patel’s stunning performance with the ball won the 1st test just by 4 runs. The third and final test would be a series-decider which will start on December 3 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
It took 32 innings for Babar Azam to reach his maiden test century.
Yasir Shah has the highest number of wickets (195) after playing 32 tests, he surpassed countrymate Waqar Younis who had 187 wickets after 32 tests.
Yasir Shah is only 5 wickets away to be the quickest bowler to reach 200 wickets, R. Ashwin currently holds the record in just 37 matches.
The third test decides who takes the trophy. The final match of the tour is scheduled to be played at Abu Dhabi on Monday, December 3 from 11:30 am onwards.
New Zealand has already experienced a win in the first test at Abu Dhabi where they will be playing their series-decider.
The middle order of Kiwis has contributed most with runs in the series so far. Kane Williamson will be the man for them to get a big score on the board.
Also, Ajaz Patel and lead-pacer Trent Boult will have to bowl effectively to strike early wickets off Pakistan.
Babar Azam and Yasir Shah will be the prominent players from Pakistan to watch out as their consistency in the series helped them to lead the board of most run-scorer and wicket-taker respectively.
Pakistan is going to be the favourites to win the third-match as well the series based on their comeback in the second test from the first-test loss which almost they had dominated to win.
