The tour will begin from 23rd January onwards the 1st ODI to be played at McLean Park, Napier. We present you the Prediction and Preview of India’s tour of New Zealand as followed:-
- It has been 5 years long both teams will meet in New Zealand to play any cricket series as both teams last played was in 2014 after which many changes have taken place in both the sides.
- New Zealand had managed to whitewash India by 4-0 as the Indian Squad was completely filled with youngsters who were unaware of the conditions of New Zealand pitches and stadiums.
- After that also the Black Caps toured to India back to back years to play ODI tours and on both the occasions they lost the series in the final match of the series, losing 3-2 in 2016 and 2-1 in 2017.
- But before both the teams face each other they will be playing against Australia (India) and Srilanka(New Zealand) for a 3 match ODI series each.
- This tour would be the final away tour for India before the World Cup to be held in England and Wales. Whereas New Zealand will play 11 ODI’s at home against 3 Asian teams one by one 3 with Srilanka in the start of January, 5 versus India at the end of January and 3 against Bangladesh in the middle of February.
India in New Zealand 2014:
New Zealand led by Brendon McCullum were in a consistent form as India could not defeat them once also as they eventually lost both the ODI and Test series against the magnificent Kiwis. Let us look at the highlights of the One-day series of 2014.
India asked the Black Caps to bat first and they posted 292/7 in 50 overs with the help of Kane Williamson(71) and Ross Taylor(55) followed by an unbeaten knock of 68 in 40 balls by Corey Anderson, although from India’s side Virat Kohli scored his 18th ODI century posting 123 runs but failed to chase the target of 293 and eventually India lost the match by 24 runs.
Captain Cool MS Dhoni won the toss and once again put New Zealand in to bat, the interruption of rain reduced the match to 42 overs and that meant India had to chase 293, 22 runs more than New Zealand’s 271/7 as per the rules of Duckworth Lewis Method. India chased New Zealand’s score but felt 15 runs short for Duckworth Lewis Target, which gave New Zealand a 2-0 lead to the series.
New Zealand opener Martin Guptill posted 111 and set an amazing 153 runs partnership with Kane Williamson to post a total of 314, India was in a position of 184-6 as MS Dhoni was sent off by Corey Anderson for 50, where everyone thought the match was gone from India’s hands.
But the spinning duo R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja made a crucial partnership with bat as they stretched till 269 and Ashwin departed and Jadeja took the match from thereon and in the last over when India needed 18 runs off 6 balls, Jadeja showed his calm and smashed 15 runs off Anderson’s bowling who also bowled two wides in that over India had only one wicket left and Jadeja ensured a draw for the team picking up a single on the last ball of the match. The draw gave hope for India to stay in the series. It was India’s seventh ODI tie.
First time in the series India won the toss and went on to bat first. Rohit Sharma started the Innings well with 79 and in the end, MS Dhoni(79*) and Jadeja (62*) Jadeja finished India’s score for 278/5.
In reply, Kane Williamson smashed his 4th consecutive half-century in the series. Ross Taylor made a brilliant century of 112 from 127 balls where skipper Brendon McCullum remained not out for 49 along with Taylor sealing the series with 3-0.
MS Dhoni made 5 in 5 tosses winning all of them and chose to field. Ross Taylor(102) hit back to back centuries and Kane Williamson(88) made another 50+ score making 5 fifties in a row. Newzealand went on to win the match as India collapsed for 216 all out. Kiwis whitewashed India 4-0.
India has made a joint squad for Australia and Newzealand ODI series as of now.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 16-member ODI squad for Australia and New Zealand.
Rishabh Pant the 21-year-old who is currently keeping the wickets for India in the test series has been dropped from the squad. Dinesh Karthik will be the backup wicketkeeper for MS Dhoni.
Death Overs specialist Jasprit Bumrah has been given rest by the board for the ODI series against Australia and New Zealand. Hyderabad’s Mohammed Siraj has been named as a replacement for Bumrah.
Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been sent back to India as BCCI take action against the two players after their controversial comments on a talk show with anchor Karan Johar. Till further notice, both cannot participate in any of matches under BCCI’s rule. Vijay Shanker and Shubman Gill have been named as replacements for Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul respectively.
New Zealand announced a 14-man squad to face the Man in Blues in ODI’s bringing back Mitchell Santner, Tom Latham and Colin de Grandhomme back as they were missed or rested during their ODI series against Sri Lanka.
New Zealand’s Squad- Williamson (c), Southee (vc), Latham(wk), Guptill, Taylor, Nicholls, de Grandhomme, Bracewell, Ferguson, Boult, Matt Henry, Santner, Munro, Sodhi.
India will surely seek to avenge the 2014 whitewash and looking at their home performance against New Zealand in 2016 and 2017, India looks too strong, we also saw how they made South Africa dance on their toes by thwarting them to win the series by 5-1. For India, the 3 ODI matches against Australia will be like a preliminary examination test before facing the board examination against New Zealand.
