India has already started their campaign with a victory in the first test by 31 runs at Adelaide Oval, the next station India will be halting is at Perth. The second test will start from December 14 at Perth Stadium. It was the first ever time that India won an opening test match in Australia.
Here we present 5 Player battles before you to watch out.
1. Virat Kohli vs Shaun Marsh
The Indian skipper has a total of 6368 test runs where recently he just completed more than 1000 test runs on Australian soil in the first test at Adelaide. On the other side, the Western Australian batsman is known for his free-flowing strokes has managed to finally score a 50 plus score in the second innings of Australia’s chase, it came long after the Ashes Century earlier this year.
King Kohli who has the most test runs in the 2018 calendar year with 1100 runs in 11 matches with an average of 55. Kohli has not got a big score in the 1st test but looking at his records against Australia, his bat won’t stop fighting and soon will get a three-figure score. Marsh will be the key for Australia in further tests.
2. Ajinkya Rahane vs Peter Hanscomb Both the middle-order batsmen hold excellence in defensive batting.
Jinks who is referred as India’s overseas test specialist batsman has scored his 2214 test outside India and with his 70 runs contribution in the second innings of the first test India could secure a 322 run lead over Australia.
Peter Handscomb is very well known to play his shots off the back foot, and play very deep into his crease, dangerously close to the stumps. Handscomb was building some successive partnership with Khawaja and Head to take Australia’s scoreboard before he fell for a soft dismissal to Jasprit Bumrah. He failed in the second innings for the run-chase, getting out for a pull shot. Still one cannot ignore his role in the draw of the Ranchi test match and he can repeat the same in this series.
3. R.Ashwin vs Nathan Lyon
It is going to be the off breakers battle as both the spinners have achieved more than 300 wickets.
Ashwin has played 16 fewer matches compared to Lyon who has played 81 matches and picked 326 wickets with 13 five-wicket hauls where Ashwin doubles Lyon’s 5-wicket haul achieving it 26 times. Both the spinners are currently leading this series top-wicket takers list with Lyon on the top with 8 and Ashwin following him with 6.
Ashwin uses the Carrom ball as his most powerful weapon and Lyon loves to bowl flighted delivery to trap the batsman into a soft-dismissal.
4. Ishant Sharma vs Josh Hazlewood
Sharma the tallest and senior-most member of current Indian test-squad is well known for bowling deadly bouncers and has bowled a delivery of 152.6 km/h the fastest by any Indian bowler, Ishant played a drastic role in the Lord’s test victory bowling his career’s best figures of 7/74.
Josh Hazlewood who is the part of Australia’s pace-trio alongside Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, he has emerged as a young talented bowler for Australia. The right-arm fast-medium made his debut against India in 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in his first innings he took 5/68 dismantling the Indian side.
Sharma and Hazlewood have produced effective spells for their sides and have the ability to swing the ball, both have started the series on a good note picking early wickets Sharma(3) and Hazlewood(4).
5. Jasprit Bumrah vs Pat Cummins
The Mumbai Indians depth specialist bowler got a call for South Africa tour to make his Test debut for India, taking world’s best batsmen Ab De Villiers as his first dismissal he is rising towards his career objectives and just in 7 tests he played he has got 34 wickets and he is the man for Virat Kohli to break big partnerships, as he did in the first test by getting break-through of Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine in the 2nd innings.
The fiery Pat Cummins who is also recognized as a bowling all-rounder has picked twice Bumrah’s wickets off 68 in 15 matches. Cummins made a comment before the start of the series saying “I think Virat Kohli is not going to get a hundred and we’re going to knock them off over here”, which was a wishful thinking Cummins clarified later on. He dismissed the Indian skipper in the very first innings of the match and kept his wish going on. Cummins will be a challenging bowler India will have to face in Perth.
